here sure are a lot, if not too many guitarists around these days, and a huge amount of them are playing shred/fusion ala Yngwie Malmsteen, very few have made any significant strides as solo artists or on the music front. Richie Kotzen is an exception to this rule, he has the gift of nimble fingers to be sure, however, he also has a keen sense of melody, so he is not trying to attain the world record for notes per CD. With a background in blues and metal, he released some solo efforts with the shred label Shrapnel, they are mainly known as a spawning ground for fret-gymnasts, he along with label mate Greg Howe, are certainly a different breed than the other clone types coming from that camp. Kotzen also has a feel for writing good songs, this was to be perhaps his best solo CD to date. He also did some fantastic work with ex-Return to Forever bassist and drummer, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White, on their Vertu release, proving he was ready to play in the big leagues. This CD also features bassist Jeff Berlin known for his work on Bruford\'s solo fusion material, and Gregg Bissonette on drums. This is a fusion feast, and you will get an earfull of the delicacies of the days when fusion meant kick-butt energy, speed, complexity, and soaring electric guitars, darn good stuff.

Once again, Project teams up Richie Kotzen with Greg Howe for another set of crazy guitar. Recorded in a 90's kind of way, Kotzen and Howe sent their ADAT tapes same studio at the same time. A somewhat darker album than their first collaboration, "Tilt" (a notable exception - the lively "Present-Moment"), the songs on Project exude more creativity, while delivering the expected intensity and virtuosity. A southpaw from the south, he emerged with a masterful band called The Dixie Dregs. In no time, word of Steve Morse's unique guitar style traveled this country and beyond. It was a style borne out of an unflinching commitment to excellence. His execution, awe-inspiring as much in his choice of notes as in the cleanliness of his delivery, became a benchmark for aspiring guitarists to heed.

Long before Steve Morse began his relationship with Magna Carta Records, those aspiring guitarists, perhaps awestruck by Morse's harmonic sense, tone, and articulation, were voting him tops in such publications as Guitar Player. Such unanimous endorsements point to Morse's uncanny (and rare) ability to play the complex lines guitarists like to hear and make music.

Indeed, music is what you hear when you sample the various tracks on this compendium of seminal Steve Morse songs. In Magna Carta Records, Morse found the forum in which to display his dazzling diversity while contributing solid compositions. In fact, each of the Steve Morse songs found herein, while replete with guitar virtuosity, feature melodic lines that you will hum long after the CD stops spinning. And to hear those figures played so supremely clean is to dig at the root of Steve Morse's artistry.
Aside from deep country and that Dixie funk, Morse exhibits a huge variety of guitar influences, from Steve Howe to John McLaughlin, the latter who seemed to define for a generation the proper ratio of jazz to rock. Then there's this pervasive baroque thing, almost Mozart-like in its staccato phrases and Bach-like in its serenity—evidence, perhaps, of Steve's classical studies in Florida (check out "Air on a 6-String" or the figure that begins around 00.50 on "Prognosis"). No wonder he used to typify his work as "modern chamber music"!

B.B. King es uno de los guitarristas mas populares de todos los tiempos y una leyenda viva del blues. Considerado por muchos como el Rey del blues, es el mejor embajador en todo el mundo y ha sido de los que mas han trabajado para popularizarlo. Ha influenciado practicamente a todos los guitarristas de blues y rock que le han sucedido, debido a que su estilo es el ABC de la guitarra solista, espléndido resumen de las técnicas básicas para los solos.

Su humilde y elegante estilo, mezcla de gospel, jazz y blues del Delta, es un compendio perfecto entre expresión ritmica y sintesis melódica. Con tan solo cuatro o cinco notas colocadas en el lugar preciso es capaz de decirlo todo.

Esto, unido a un excelente control de bendings y prebendings a diferentes intervalos y a una técnica de vibrato, que involucra todo el antebrazo, constituye una firma sonora muy imitada pero nunca superada. Se centra en la pentatónica (aunque a menudo añade alguna nota fuera de la escala para dar un toque mas jazzero) en una posición del mástil y exprime cada una de las notas, consiguiendo que todas ellas adquieran un significado. Prefiere la expresividad a la rapidez, dando un caracter vocal a su fraseo.

Adrian Smith - Silver and Gold (Iron Maiden)

Adrian Smith(Adrian Frederik Smith, nacido el 27 de febrerode 1957 en Inglaterra es uno de los tres guitarristas en la banda británica de heavy metal Iron Maiden . Las primeras canciones de Smith compuestas para Maiden aparecen en el álbum de 1982 The Number of the Beast,y se convertiría en el segundo compositor de la banda a partir de entonces. El sonido de ambas guitarras principales de Adrian Smith y Dave Murray ayudó a forjar el sonido característico de Iron Maiden hasta su abandono en 1990. La probable marcha de Adrian pudo ser causada porque no le gustaba la dirección que estaba tomando la banda: después del álbum experimental Somewhere in Time y Seventh Son of a Seventh Son ,Steve Harris decidió retomar una vía de heavy metal más tradicional, más semejante a sus primeros discos; por esta disparidad de criterios Smith pudo haberse marchado. Adrian salió de Iron Maiden y sacó un LP en solitario con el nombre de ASAP(Adrian Smith and Project) titulado Silver and Gold en 1989.Más adelante tocó la guitarra en varios proyectos en solitario de Bruce Dickinson, que también dejó Maiden en 1994. En 1999 Adrian volvió a Iron Maiden para la gira "Ed Hunter" que promocionaba un videojuego del mismo nombre basado en la mascota de Iron Maiden Eddie. Antes de unirse a dicha gira, Adrian hizo prometer a Steve Harris que con su vuelta no le quitaría el sitio a Janick Gers(que había entrado para sustituirlo). Steve Harris aceptó y por eso las dos guitarras que tuvo en todos sus álbumes Iron Maiden se convirtieron en tres a partir del disco Brave New World.
Adrian todavía permanece en Iron Maiden desde entonces.

WIth legendary rhythm kings, bassist Stuart Hamm and drummer Steve Smith, 18-year-old Richie Kotzen delivered a set of highly complex instrumentals featuring guitar solos steeped in technique and attitude. Co-produced by Jason Becker, Kotzen's debut album features unpredictable guitar work and lyrical songs. Released in 1989 during the Shrapnel Records shred metal heyday, this CD has been hard to acquire ever since. Prior to the album's release, at the age of 17, Richie had traveled back and forth across the United States, playing in excess of 500 shows. It was during that year that Richie released Richie Kotzen on Shrapnel Records and graced the cover of several publications including Guitar World Magazine. Richie's style on this recording travels across rock, fusion and shred, which was initially popularized by Greg Howe on his Shrapnel debut. Adrián Subotovsky: Fin de Siglo - Concierto para guitarra electrica y orquesta Op. 1

Arranca a los 7 años estudiando piano para luego volcarse de lleno en la guitarra eléctrica. En 1987 forma parte de Samson, banda con la cual graba dos discos, siendo la primera placa el primer disco de heavy metal clásico editado en ese formato. Participó como sesionista de muchísimos artistas, en el 94 graba con Saúl Blanch, en el 96 graba la música de la película Paulo Silas, en el 96 también conforma Odisea grabando un disco y un video.
Graba varias cortinas para TyC Sports. En el 98 lanza su último trabajo de Odisea (homenaje a Paganini) y forma parte de la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional del Teatro Colón como primer y único guitarrista eléctrico en su historia.
Con la Orquesta realiza un viaje a Austria en la gira de Homenaje a Mozart.
Es uno de los 14 guitarristas que conforman el primer compilado de guitarristas de la Argentina.
A partir de Diciembre del 99 forma parte de Quemar.
